Diana Martes, Executive Director & CHAC founder
Diana Martes formed CHAC as a nonprofit organization in 2000 when she realized that Latino children regularly were being pulled out of school in order to translate for their parents in legal, medical and social services settings. It was clear that this practice was very undesirable, and so she founded The Chambersburg Hispanic American Center (CHAC) as a remedy.
CHAC offers free bilingual translation and interpretation to low-income Hispanic adults. In addition, CHAC helps any low-income person, regardless of ethnicity or any other attribute, to connect with housing, employment, and a variety of social services that they may need. Anyone in the Chambersburg community who needs help is welcome.
